Introducing Our New Rugby Team at the coop
We're excited to announce the launch of our new rugby team! Starting this fall, our team will compete in the Pennsylvania (PA) 7s tournament, a fast-paced, high-energy format that emphasizes speed, agility, and quick decision-making. In the spring, we'll transition to the traditional 15s competition, focusing on strategy, endurance, and full-team coordination. Rugby is open to both boys and girls, fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or new to the sport, join us to build skills, make friends, and represent our school with pride.

The Values of Rugby for Boys and Girls as They Develop into Young Adults
Rugby is a microcosm of life, teaching virtues like perseverance, courage, self-mastery, magnanimity, and discipline. The program emphasizes facing opponents with dignity and honor, using sports to balance intellectual pursuits and guide adolescent energies toward positive growth.
1. Teamwork and Solidarity
Rugby requires seamless collaboration, where every player supports one another to achieve a common goal. For boys, this builds leadership and camaraderie, helping them learn to rely on others in high-pressure situations. For girls, it promotes empowerment and equality, breaking stereotypes by showing that strength comes from unity.
2. Discipline and Resilience
The physical demands of rugby—tackling, running, and strategizing under fatigue—instill self-control and perseverance. Boys often develop mental toughness to push through setbacks, like injuries or losses, which prepares them for life's obstacles. Girls gain confidence in their physical abilities, challenging societal norms and building body positivity.
3. Respect and Integrity
Rugby emphasizes fair play, honoring referees, opponents, and teammates regardless of the outcome. This teaches boys to channel competitiveness ethically, reducing aggression and promoting empathy. For girls, it reinforces self-respect and demands equal treatment, combating gender biases.
4. Passion and Enjoyment
The thrill of the game ignites a love for physical activity and lifelong fitness. Boys and girls alike discover joy in pushing their limits, which can combat sedentary lifestyles and boost mental health through endorphins and achievement.
5. Physical and Mental Health Benefits
Rugby improves overall fitness, including cardiovascular health, strength, and coordination. For developing teens, it supports healthy growth while teaching injury prevention and nutrition. Mentally, it reduces anxiety and builds self-esteem—studies show team sports like rugby lower depression rates in youth.
By participating in rugby, our students will not only compete at a high level but also emerge as well-rounded young adults equipped with values that last a lifetime. Join us and experience the transformative power of the sport!
